Educational Design
Radio Hunter is
investigative, scientific, educational, engaging
Project Origin
How can complex scientific content be transformed into an experience capable of stimulating curiosity, investigation and reflection?
The Radio Hunter project emerges from this question. Instead of presenting concepts in an expository way, the game proposes an investigative experience in which narrative, challenges and historical context guide the player toward the progressive discovery of scientific knowledge.
Recognition
The Radio Hunter project received an Honorable Mention at the International Joint Conference – RADIO 2024 after evaluation by the event's scientific committee. The distinction highlighted the consistency of the educational proposal, the articulation between technology, narrative and scientific knowledge, and the contribution of the game to scientific dissemination in educational contexts.
This international recognition positions the project among educational initiatives valued by the scientific community in the field.
Copyright Registration
The Radio Hunter project is registered at the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) under software and interactive technologies protection. The work is also registered with the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL), with blockchain certification, formally establishing the intellectual authorship of the project.
More than a formality, these registrations reflect a commitment to the seriousness of educational production, to the preservation of authorship and to the recognition that projects oriented toward learning are also intellectual works that deserve protection, care and responsibility in their construction.
Educational Problem
In many educational contexts, complex scientific content is still presented predominantly in an expository format, prioritizing memorization and reproduction of information. This model often reduces space for investigation, interpretation and the development of critical thinking.
The Radio Hunter project explores an alternative approach to this scenario, using an investigative narrative experience to bring students closer to the process of scientific discovery and to stimulate more reflective forms of learning.
Educational Foundation
The Radio Hunter was conceived as an educational technology grounded in tangential learning, in which knowledge emerges integrated with the narrative experience. Scientific content is incorporated into the investigative storyline, requiring interpretation, decision-making and conceptual application throughout the progression of the game.
The organization of the project articulates narrative, cognitive challenges and historical contextualization, promoting the gradual construction of concepts related to radiology and radioactivity.
Pedagogical Architecture
The game adopts a linear and guided narrative progression. This choice does not represent a structural limitation, but a deliberate pedagogical decision. Linearity allows control over the progressive introduction of scientific content, ensuring coherence between the development of the plot and conceptual advancement.
The complexity curve is sequentially planned, ensuring that the player establishes consistent relationships between historical events, scientific figures and the fundamental concepts of the field.
Design and Experience
The visual identity of the project is built through vector illustration, organized with aesthetic coherence and clear visual hierarchy. The composition prioritizes visual clarity, informational hierarchy and narrative flow.
Visual elements and interface were developed with attention to user experience, seeking to reduce cognitive noise and support contextual assimilation of scientific content.
The main setting takes place in London, incorporating real references such as the Sherlock Holmes pub on Northumberland Street. From this initial scenario, the investigation expands to other historical locations across Europe.
Web Comics
The narrative universe of Radio Hunter is expanded through webcomics published on the project's official website. These complementary narratives deepen the origins of the characters, reveal elements of the investigative context and expand the fictional environment in which the story unfolds.
The webcomics function as a narrative extension of the game, enriching audience immersion without replacing the central experience based on investigation and puzzle solving.
Mechanics as Learning Devices
The mechanics of Radio Hunter were structured to simultaneously sustain the playful experience and the educational objectives of the project.
